Pro-Life Community Celebrates Anniversary of the End of Roe

Written by on June 24, 2023

ALBANY, NY—Today marks the first anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. In Dobbs, the Court overruled the disastrous 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade that imposed an abortion-on-demand regime upon the United States for nearly 50 years and resulted in tens of millions of abortion deaths. In so doing, the Dobbs Court made it possible for the elected branches of government to take meaningful steps to protect unborn children.

Jason J. McGuire, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, made the following remarks: “In the year since the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, incredible pro-life progress has been made in the United States. Abortion is illegal in 14 states, and its availability is significantly limited in several others. Pro-life policies are being advanced at the federal level. Dozens of abortion clinics have stopped performing abortions or closed altogether. Countless unborn lives have been saved.”

McGuire continued, “As pro-life Americans celebrate the anniversary of Dobbs, we are mindful of the work that has yet to be done. New York and many other states lack protections for the unborn. Our federal government has not permanently banned federal funding for elective abortion. Pill abortions are on the rise. Our nation does not promote family formation, childbearing, or adoption the way that it should. Many American hearts and minds are not yet convinced that abortion is an egregious violation of human rights. While the struggle to protect human life is still ongoing, we look forward to the day when abortion has become a thing of the past. With God’s help, all things are possible.”
