Wayne Weekly “Seasons in Life…A Time for Trust”

We all have seasons in life. There is a time for just about everything under the sun. The book of Ecclesiastes says it well:

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

3 To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

² A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

³ A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

⁴ A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

⁵ A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

⁶ A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

⁷ A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

⁸ A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Granted, this was written in the Old Testament and a time to hate has been transformed by Jesus in to loving our enemies. We can hate evil and sin, though.

These eight verses don’t personify different years of our lives, but the time frame can be much smaller. The seasons can change in a moment. Seasons exemplified in this passage are like the weather here in central New York. Often changeable…quickly changeable.

The Lord wants us to trust Him in all seasons found in our life’s journey. He wants us to be prepared for whatever comes our way. Some things are hard to prepare for, but preparation is built on a lifestyle of trusting and acknowledging God. We experience happy times, joyful times, hurtful times, sad times. That’s life. But the Savior is always bidding us to come to Him. He promises to give us rest, He promises to give us the peace that indeed “passes all understanding”.

I recall times of great happiness. Finding my wife, having children, being loved by others, achieving a goal, loving a pet dog. Different degrees perhaps, but all happy seasons. I also remember those times of sadness. My Dad suddenly dying when I was 19, saying good-bye to a close friend, a favorite car fender bender. Momentary seasons in life
