Mars Hill Network’s Mark Hard…Almost Terminated

Mark Hard

Today’s Christian Professional Media Alliance (CPMA) meeting featured Mr. Mark Hard as guest speaker.

Mark is a 25 year veteran of Mars Hill beginning his career with Christian radio in October of 1989 as week-day overnight host. He now serves as Morning Host on the M-F “Mornings” program from 6-9 o’clock, and holds the position of Operation’s Manager and Production Coordinator.

Mark shared with a crowd of 15 Christian media professionals his life journey beginning with a decision not to terminate Mark’s life by means of ending his mom’s pregnancy due to physical complications. Only at the last moment, when one last pre-surgery examination was performed on Mark’s mother, did the Doctor change his mind about the necessity of ending the pregnancy.

Mark also spoke of his impaired eyesight. How the Doctors were able to successfully treat him as an infant against all odds, and then a later in life, complication that could have easily resulted in the loss of, or the severe limitation of, Mark’s sight.

Attending AWANA meetings with a friend was the vehicle God used to give sight to Mark, not physically this time, but spiritually. At the end of a meeting, Mark knew he had a need for Jesus and spoke with an AWANA counselor.

Mark Hard revealed how God had opened the door for him in recent years to attend Syracuse University as a part time student where he earned his BA degree in social work and psychology. He has continued on in his studies and will graduate from SU with a Master’s Degree this spring. This fulfilled a dream of his mother wishes, who, as an SU graduate herself, had always hoped Mark would earn an SU degree as well.

We were left with a challenge to “remember” our own stories, and to look for opportunities to share them for a witness to others. Personal stories, Mark told us, have much weight when presenting the message of hope through Christ.

Mark continues to live in Camillus with his wife Nancy, and two children, Abby and Eldon.

A time of prayer followed. A great time of fellowship and encouragement was shared by all.

Our next CPMA meeting will be held May 20th at Denny’s off of 7th North St. in Liverpool. We meet from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. Lunch is self-pay. Look for more information about our special guest speaker soon.
